Initial Visit
The initial visit is a period for you and I to get to know each other and get an idea of how to proceed. Future visits will be more therapeutic in nature. For example, in your second session, you may explore a specific symptom, problem, or past trauma you mentioned in the first session.
During the First Session, I will ask you:
What are your symptoms?
What brought you to therapy?
What do you feel is most important about why you are seeking change through therapy?
Some questions about your history, including your childhood, education, relationships (family, romantic, friends), your current living situation, and your career
Second Session and Beyond:
We will establish a direction for work, what therapy module fits you best for your goals, and a frequency of contact that fits your life and routine.
Self Check-In:
Rapport and an effective connection are important to meet your needs. Please ask me questions to clarify or improve understanding. Make requests if you are missing something in treatment. Sometimes our chemistries won't "click". If at anytime you feel that I may not be a good fit, I will gladly recommend another counselor.
Length of Treatment:
How long someone stays engaged in treatment depends on a number of factors. Intensity of symptoms, trauma history, number of treatment goals and interests, time to commit to therapy change while navigating life demands, etc will all influence how long someone stays engaged in therapy. Some people find their healing and answers in short-term therapy episodes while some may need more time.
Periodic Review of Goals and Progress:
We will keep an open dialogue about what you are getting out of therapy, what you have gained, and any redirection that may be warranted.
